GameFace SERIES 2 Announced (And We Want More Joncella!)

GameFace is returning for a second series, Channel 4 announced today.

Roisin Conaty’s comedy will return for another six part series next year, making the move to Channel 4 from E4. Production begins February 2019 with the show airing later in the year. Series 2 will also be available in the US via Hulu.

Series 1 of the sitcom was met with critical acclaim, the Telegraph described it as “Rude, raw and slyly romantic, the funniest sitcom of the year” and reviews praised its hilarious and heartfelt flavour, with a current and relatable lead character in Marcella (Conaty).

Damien starred as Marcella’s long-suffering driving instructor Jon, who moved from the margins into the messy mainstream of her life. Perhaps a case of opposites attract, the romantic tension and undeniable chemistry between them created some of the most hilarious and heartfelt moments of the series. We are obviously hoping for more.

Channel 4 has revealed the second series of GameFace “promises to deliver more laughs, more drama and more of Conaty’s own unique takes on modern life.”

News on series 2 cast is yet to come, but after the addictively more-ish will-they-wont-they / they-almost-did ‘Joncella’ storyline, the end of the first series gave us a re-set to Marcella and Jon’s relationship and left it wide open for the future.

The second series will reach our TV screens two years on, so the characters will have moved on too.

Perhaps Marcella has still not passed her driving test, or is now having bowling lessons… But the time leap also gives the potential for her relationship with Jon to have developed – their very different approaches to life would make for a hilarious living together situation!

The commissioning is thrilling news and well deserved, congratulations to the GameFace team.

We are very much hoping we will be able to make an entry in our gratitude journals soon and our favourite actor returns in the new series.
