Damien performed at WordTheatre’s ‘Heart Strings: Bittersweet Love Stories’ yesterday, a literary event bringing the talents of actors and writers together for a night of storytelling, “emotion and high drama” at St James Theatre, London.

Damien gave two readings, treating the audience to two different accents in two different short stories which according to audience accounts, were both heart breaking and funny, passionate and enthralling.

The first, The Woman At The Window by James Lasdun, was a joint reading with Gina Bellman (Coupling, Leverage) where Damien portrayed an English man in New York, tricked into helping a woman who claims she is locked into her apartment.

The second, Angry by Joyce Carol Oates, an emotional story of love at first sight leading to darker scenarios, Damien performed in his natural Irish accent.

The night also included readings from Ian Hart (Boardwalk Empire, My Mad Fat Diary), Natascha McElhone (Californication, Fatal Attraction – Theatre Royal Haymarket), Emma Hamilton (Richard II – Royal Shakespeare Company, The Tudors) and Rhashan Stone (Twelve Years A Slave BBC 4, The Smoke)

Musical interludes with Rhashan Stone and violinist Lizzie Ball accompanied the actors’ performances.
